Living in Drumnadrochit
With a great shinty club and its own brewery, what else could a Highland village want?
Throw in the Loch Ness Monster as well and an iconic castle nearby and you can see why Drumnadrochit is such a popular place with the tourists and that means plenty of jobs in the hospitality sector with three larger hotels, two inns and a hostel.
The village lies on the A82 only 14 miles away from Inverness, well within commuting distance. Inverness is the hub of the region’s social and cultural life with plenty of shopping, theatre, cinema and an incredible live music scene. Inverness Airport has links with the major UK airports and Europe and major railway station with links to major Scottish cities and onward to the rest of the UK including the Caledonian Sleeper service to London.
Drumnadrochit has long had a good sense of community; the village hall was built more than 100 years ago, and the Glen Urquhart High School also houses the community library. The village also has a pharmacy, Post Office and small supermarket along with a doctor’s surgery and a team of community first responders.
The village is really buzzing at the height of the tourist season which lasts longer here because of the proximity of Loch Ness and Nessieland the themed visitor centre and Castle Urquhart near by.
Glenurquhart High School takes pupils from the village along with neighbouring Balnain and Cannich Bridge.
